Getting started on your fitness, weight or lifestyle overhaul
Did you hear the story about the chap who wanted a holiday?
He didn’t know how to use online services, so he popped down to his local high street travel agent. He was the only one inside, so the agent welcomed him immediately.
‘Good Morning, Sir. What can I do for you today?’, the agent asked.
The man replied ‘I would like a holiday please.’
The agent asked him, ‘Where would you like to go?’
‘I don’t know but the doctor says I need a holiday’ was his reply.
‘So what kind of trip would you like? What do you like doing? How would you like to travel? Do you like landscapes, do you like a bit of sea, or a bit of culture?
‘I’ve no idea, just book me a holiday…’
This bamboozled the agent…
It’s a bit of a silly tale isn’t it? How on earth can you book a holiday if you have absolutely no idea where you want to go, what you like or what you want to do there?
Seneca was a Roman Stoic philosopher who lived between 4 BC and AD 65 but his proverb holds true to the present day. What did he mean?
If you don’t know the exact endpoint of your destination – then there are no available forces that can assist you on your journey and it’s highly likely you won’t get anywhere at all. You’re guaranteed to fail! This is simple common sense.
The same applies when you’re venturing out on your health or fitness journey. If you have no idea what you’re ultimately trying to achieve, you’re not clear on what to expect on the way, how can you start?
Have a clear starting point and endpoint, but keep reminding yourself of your destination.
If you struggle with this sort of clarity or planning, then it’s worth getting yourself a coach to assist you. What is my role as fitness, weight loss and motivation coach? – exactly that!
I’ll help you develop your own personalised roadmap. I’ll help you with the right questions and support, so that you’re in control.
The next thing to ask is HOW do you get from A to B? What will your journey be like and what will it involve? Will there be a ‘favourable wind’ assisting you? Will there be strong currents trying to pull you off course and how will will you deal with them?
This is why, if you’re starting out on a lifestyle change, weight loss or fitness journey, getting the right guide to assist you is so important.
There’s no point in picking any weights, doing a random exercise programme, making nutritional and habit changes until you’re clear about what you want to achieve, and answering these questions.
So, remember don’t just join a gym, confused and unclear of what it is you need to do. Don’t take up a new eating plan without questioning whether it will deliver you long term success. Sit down with a personal coach first.
Get to the true heart of success!
